Frequently Asked Questions
What is Pilates Rehabilitation?
A Pilates Rehabilitation Practitioner is not the same as a Pilates Instructor. The words Pilates Rehabilitation can only be used when associated with an individual who already has formal medical training.
Training as a Certified Pilates Rehabilitation Practitioner is reserved only for Physicians, Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Occupational Therapists or Registered Nurses – those with formal education and training in musculoskeletal evaluation and management. The template of traditional Pilates Training is placed upon the foundations of the professional training in anatomy, physiology and kinesiology , etc. that is required of these professions. This certification program requires over 700 hours of training as well as a written and a practical exam and an oral defense.
How many Certified Pilates Rehabilitation Practitioners are there?
There are approximately 175 Certified Pilates Rehabilitation Practitioners in the United States and approximately 220 worldwide.
Do I need a Referral from my Physician?
No, you do not. There are only two states in the United States that still require a doctor's referral. However, I am very happy to work closely with your physician - or not at all – whatever your preference.
Do you do an evaluation of me before I start Pilates Rehabilitation?
Yes. An initial evaluation typically takes an hour. The evaluation includes a detailed review of your relevant medical history, a musculoskeletal evaluation, discussion of your goals and of my findings from the evaluation.
Essentially, I do the evaluation to find out where you are and what is limiting you. Then, I find out from you what your goals are or what it would be like if you did not have these limitations. Then, before our next session I will have designed a Plan of Care, or a planned outline, of what we need to do together to get you from where you are to where you want to be.
I do re-evaluations to check our progress toward your goals and adjust the Plan of Care accordingly.
What are your fees?
The initial evaluation is $100.00 and takes 50 minutes. Each treatment session of Physical Therapy is $90.00 and is also 50 minutes. I accept cash, check, or charge cards.
Do you take insurance?
Payment is expected at the time of service. However, if you have insurance, I am able to provide the paperwork for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It is best to check with your benefits coordinator to see what coverage you have for Out-Patient Physical Therapy. I am not in any insurance network. Insurance companies typically reimburse to an individual within 30-60 days.
